In order for the eyes to shine to their fullest, we need to use the right ingredients. Eye makeup has become a real art. Eyeliners or kajals are real magic, because by emphasizing the inner or outer edge of the eyes, we can make them look bigger or longer. We use them to define and express the view. Let’s be bold when choosing a color, because eyeliner conjures up a wonderful look.
History of makeup
Eye makeup has a long history dating back thousands of years when women and men used different techniques to emphasize and shape their eyes. Let’s take a walk through time to discover interesting eras in practice that shape the world of eye makeup.
1. Ancient Egyptians: The art of kohl
One of the earliest cultures to have rich traditional eye makeup was the Egyptians. You can imagine that over 6,000 years ago, both men and women used kohl, a dark ink to highlight their eyes. The use of kohl was not only for an aesthetic purpose, the reason was also of a religious nature, as the Egyptians believed that it also had protective properties and protected against eye diseases. A combination of charcoal, copper ore and other natural ingredients created the characteristic dark lines around the eyes.
2. Greeks and Romans: Elegance and subtlety
Ancient Greece and Rome dictated different trends. Eye make-up has evolved towards more subtle and elegant looks. Women used different colors of eye shadow such as blue, green and gray for make-up. Interestingly, during this period of history, long eyelashes were popular, achieved using various tools such as wooden sticks.
3. The Middle Ages: Mystery and glitz
The Middle Ages took eye makeup trends to a new level again. Women are creating mysterious and dramatic looks using dark eyeshadows, sometimes mixed with glitter and precious stones. The use of glitter became a symbol of prestige and wealth.
4. Victorian period: Predominance of pale tones
In the 19th century, the Victorian era brought the trend of pale tones. Women preferred to use neutral and pastel smaller eyeshadows. They also used special adhesive tapes to create charming shapes around the eyes.
5. 20th century: Revolution in eye makeup
The 20th century brought a real little revolution in eye make-up. We’ve seen everything from wild and colorful styles in the 60s to minimalist and natural looks in the 90s. Mascara, eyeliners, eye shadows in different shapes and colors have become a key part of everyday makeup.
Today: Freedom of expression
Living in this century is truly a blessing for all eye makeup fans. Makeup brings expressive freedom in eye makeup. We have a variety of colors, textures to technologies such as waterproof formulas and eyelash extensions. Eye make-up is no longer just a cosmetic trend, but an expression of individuality and creativity.
Use eyeliner or kajal?
Both give the eyes a special look and are thus a very important accessory in make-up, as they are used to emphasize the look, define the eyes and give them distinct power and attractiveness. Use the eyeliner to emphasize and lighten the inner and/or outer edge of the eyes to make them look bigger or longer.
Eyeliners have the same composition as eyebrow liners, only the pigments are different. Kajals are usually composed of waxes (beeswax, carnaubin, lanolin), hard paraffin, white petroleum jelly, cetyl alcohol, and pigments (in black, red, blue, green, purple, or some other dark color). When choosing, focus on the colors that best support your eyes.
When it comes to eyeliner, it’s important that it glides on nicely, has pigment coverage and lasts all day.
We distinguish between two types of liner, otherwise we know the pencil-shaped liner, which is intended for use both on the inner and outer edge of the eyelids, and the classic shower-shaped liner (liquid eye liner), which is used only on the outer edge of the eyelid. These eyeliners, made on a water basis, are more difficult to draw a line, but once you get used to them, they are much better, because they create a really nice effect on the eyes and are therefore more durable than pencils, which contain fats and smear more quickly over the years.
Shades
When it comes to eyeshadows, we have a whole range of colors available and I believe we can never have enough. With different colors, we create different looks, from gentle, nocturnal to seductive. We distinguish two types of shades:
Powder eyeshadows or compact eyeshadows are used most often. With the development of new pigments, it is also more intensely colored. They can also be combined with each other to get new lower ones. They enable soft, gentle make-up, as they last so well and do not collect in wrinkles. They are known as classic eyeshadows. Powder eyeshadow is basically powder with pigment added to it. The main ingredients of eyeshadow powder are kaolin, waxes, silicone and paraffin oil, white petroleum jelly, water and preservatives. Let’s divide them into shiny ones
The different effects and colors of the mascaras allow us to choose between dramatic lengthening of the eyelashes or a more natural but stunning look.Be careful to choose a mascara that not only covers, but also keeps the eyelashes thick and dull. And remember, each type of mascara has its own superpower, so choose the one that best matches your desired effect.Eye make-up is a real work of art, where every woman can feel like a real sorceress!
